Pros And Cons Of MS Excel Programming

By Kathleen Kennedy

MS products are the most widespread software products in the various homes and offices today. They are the key programs that facilitate various office tasks such as document preparation, presentations, among other tasks. They are simple programs and highly customized. One can easily train on how to use them without much struggle. The strengths and weaknesses of MS excel programming are discussed below.

This application is a part of main program Microsoft office, and it is customized to perform various mathematical analysis and data entry. They can perform multiple data analysis including graphs and chart generation, sorting and grading. The program, however, has some strengths and weakness though the term is relative to the context of operations and expertise of the operator. The level of strengths and weakness will be significantly low depending on the training and experience.

Some advantages of package are the fact that it gives constant execution of data. Once a function is defined, and the input determined the outcome will always show consistency. Unless for human error the results produced show a consistency all through. This is a desirable feature, especially when dealing with data that is consistent with nature.

The program also executes faster than any human being can. This is because once the program is served with the correct inputs and the appropriate code is run then the results will be very accurate. The outcome is almost instant, and in the case of vigorous data analysis, it can be left to perform the execution and produce results. The process is faster and thus time-saving. It also enhances the productivity of employees.

For good macro programmers, the program will hardly introduce an error in the outcome. Any error that may be noticed will be that of the program either syntax or logical one. The package is designed so well such that it hardly introduce errors. It is thus a reliable program, and its outcomes can be depended upon for any decision making.

With all that said a look at the weaknesses or rather constraints would be okay. However what is considered as a weakness here is not to mean is a problem as per say. The first constraint is the fact that one must be knowledgeable in basic visual programming for him or her to perform the task of writing the code. The language has its own rules and logic that are essential for designing any program for running macros.

The other constraint with the software is the fact that it does not have a feature that you can transfer the whole program coded to another machine. In other words no stand-alone excel or visual basic program. For you to import a program, you have to rewrite the code in another machine.

Lastly, there is a tendency by the company to upgrade as years goes by and in the process develop newer versions of the excel program. Although they try to keep a good link with the previous versions, at times, the previous versions may need you to do some changes to your code for it to run. All the same debugging is not an exception here since errors are common. If you write a macro, you need to provide technical assistance to those accessing your work.
