Stay On Top Of Inventory And Taxes With Excel Templates For Entrepreneurs

By Janet Schmidt

When a business grows, it can be near impossible to slow down and assess the next move. While a new business owner may be elated about the money coming in, they also should concern themselves with what is going out. In most cases, expansion can be costly unless there was a plan in place, like hiring family member that are skilled in a certain area or are willing to learn. Although a person can get away with paying little to nothing in this instance, expenses should still be monitored. What many entrepreneurs may not be aware of is that excel templates for entrepreneurs are ideal for those anticipate rapid growth in the near future.

For those who take the time to count physical inventory, this is the first area in need of a spreadsheet that can be accessed on any device. Dated software cannot be viewed on smartphones or tablets and there may come a moment when being able to retrieve accurate information is crucial to making a deal. While some opportunities may seem like an instant win, not having enough inventory can determine whether the owner may take a loss.

What stops a lot of people from learning the full functions are the terms and detailed formulas needed to do the right calculation. While there are shortcuts, it takes time and energy to become fully familiarized. As some tutorials may cover all spreadsheet functions and features, a person may just need one or two of these in order to run their business.

Hiring additional staff is another area that must be carefully monitored by the small business owner. Complying with state and federal laws that relate to payroll must be followed from the day the individual begins employment. While paying someone under the table may be the easiest approach, it can hurt the business owner and it is illegal.

Although this step is easy for most to do, not every business has the same needs. Retail markups, commissions to be paid to employees or contractors, and payroll require a different type of calculation. Templates can eliminate some of the labor with drag and drop features that are ready to install with a simple mouse click.

Templates can also expedite the linking process, as the user would not need to know programming languages. Even if an external link were to become dead, the spreadsheet can send an alert to the administrator to update or remove the link immediately. For those operations with a steady customer or merchant database, this may only happen every once in a while, if at all.

Accuracy does not take a lot of time when a software template is used regularly. There may be small changes, like software updates or an external link may need updating or removal. Many of these programs are ideal for the person with a basic computer or business knowledge but does not have time to learn complex calculation formulas.

Even if sales are slow in the beginning, having a spreadsheet system in place helps a great deal. If a person does not know who to use excel or a similar program, there are many instructional videos and courses for every learning style. When it comes to making money, knowing where it is going is the most important thing from the first day of business.
